Skin - The largest organ of the
Learning a little bit about your skin, can
help you understand just why Derma E products are the right choice
for your precious skin.
Many people don't realize this, but like
the liver, kidney, or heart, the skin is an organ. In fact, it's
the largest organ in your body, but it's still easy to take skin
for granted, unless there is a problem.
Your skin has an important job to do, as
it is constantly protecting you. Your skin keeps infections
out of your body and keeps you from getting sick. The skin also
serves as an excretory organ, eliminating toxins and releasing moisture
and carbon dioxide. Your skin is a living, breathing organ that
serves you well and needs to be treated well to function properly
and stay beautiful. When you take care of your skin, you're helping
your skin do its job. So, taking good care of your skin on a daily
basis will help prevent future problems, like wrinkles, sagging
skin, and even skin cancer.
The skin is made up of three layers, each with its own function.
The layer on the outside is called the epidermis. Even though you
can't see anything happening, your epidermis is hard at work. At
the bottom of the epidermis, new skin cells are forming. When the
cells are ready, they start moving toward the top of your epidermis.
This trip takes about 2 weeks to a month. As newer cells continue
to move up, older cells near the top die and rise to the surface
of your skin. What you see on your hands and everywhere else on
your body are really dead skin cells. When you cleanse with Derma
E cleansers you are removing some of these dead skin cells and allowing
the new fresh skin to appear. Exfoliating with the Microdermabrasion
Scrub or the Papaya and Soy Milk Mask twice weekly removes even
more dead skin cells and can provide you with radiant skin.
The next layer down is the dermis, which contains nerve endings,
blood vessels, oil glands, and sweat glands. It also contains collagen
and elastin, which are tough and stretchy. This layer provides the
skin structure that we see on the outside. The two proteins, collagen
and elastin, form a structural lattice that gives your skin elasticity,
tone, and flexibility. When this protein structure is damaged or
begins to break down, we begin to see the appearance of lines, wrinkles,
and a loss of skin tone.
The dermis is home to the oil glands, too, which are always producing
sebum. Sebum is your skin's own natural oil. It rises to the surface
of your epidermis to keep your skin lubricated and protected. Derma
E products do not contain the undesirable ingredients that other
manufacturers use, which actually clog your pores and harm your
skin. Your cleanser should remove dirt and impurities without clogging
your pores or disturbing the natural balance of the skin. Using
a Derma E cleanser, on the face and neck removes dirt without stripping
the skin of its natural oils and moisture. After cleansing, your
face should feel clean and fresh, not tight, dry, or pulled. Remember
to pay attention to your skin. If your cleanser does not leave your
face feeling clean and wonderful, choose a different cleanser that
may be more appropriate for your skin type.
The deepest layer, the subcutaneous tissue, contains the fat cells
that help hold in heat, serve as padding to protect underlying organs,
and provide the body with energy when needed.
Part of caring for your skin is carefully choosing what you put
on your skin. Remember to avoid products that contain potentially
harmful ingredients. Many companies use parabens as preservatives,
but recent research suggests that parabens may be harmful. Two other
common skin care ingredients, mineral oil and lanolin, may clog
the pores, preventing the skin from functioning properly and leading
to blemishes. Petrolatum is another ingredient that tends to clog
pores. The easiest way to avoid products that contain these harmful
ingredients is to use Derma E skin care products, which are free
of minderal oil, lanolin, propyl ingredients, sodium laurel sulfates,
and parabens. Derma E also uses only essential oils for fragrance.
Also remember that your skin has the amazing ability to heal itself.
So it is important to nourish your skin with the nutrients, antioxidants,
and botanicals found in Derma E products to help restore the natural
beauty of your skin.
